It is my utmost pleasure to welcome you to Greater Heights Academy (GHA). My team and I have been planning the opening of GHA since 2010. I consider it a blessing and an honor to have been chosen as the Director. I am originally from Ohio, but don’t hold that against me. My husband and I have two wonderful children who are happily married. I also have two grandchildren that I absolutely adore.
In regards to my qualifications, I hold an Ed. Specialist degree from the University of Michigan. I also have an Administrative Certificate from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). I have spent the last 8 years as Curriculum/Assistant Director at Holly Academy. Prior to that I taught 5 years in grades 3, 6, 7, and 8. I loved teaching middle school; their vibrancy is unequaled. Although I have to admit there is nothing better than experiencing Green Eggs & Ham with a room full of kindergarten students. In addition to my educational experience, I also spent the last 5 years overseeing the children’s ministry at the Flint Dream Center ~ an inner city mission church focused on helping those in need. It was this experience that brought me to Flint.
And now to the school….As you may know Greater Heights Academy is a replication of Holly Academy, a public school academy in Holly, MI dedicated to high academics and a strong character program. Holly Academy is known throughout the State of Michigan as a model school. They also received their School of Excellence designation from the MDE in 2011.
Travis Craven, GHA’s Assistant Director, and I plan to incorporate what we have learned at Holly Academy and incorporate those same systems and procedures into an entire school program at Greater Heights Academy. Our desire is to offer our families the best education available in Genesee County. In addition, we will provide our students with a strong character education program that actually teaches students how to be productive and caring citizens in their community. A comprehensive Health and Wellness Program will bring greater social, physical, and emotional health to the students and families in the Flint area and surrounding communities. It is GHA’s desire to build a healthy student which will in turn result in students who are ready and willing to learn.
One characteristic you may find unique at Greater Heights Academy is the attention we give to building positive relationships with our parents and students. We know that in order for a child to be successful, we must rely on their first educator, their parents. We also adhere to a strict 48-hour communication policy. All communication will receive a response within 48 hours.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. We are thrilled to have you as part of our Greater Heights Academy family. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Lisa Leimeister, Director
